Identity is self-consciousness.

Identity is self-awareness.

Identity is the opposite awareness of attention.

Identity is your seed: the seed of self.

Attention is other-consciousness.

Attention is other-awareness.

All sentient life requires both identity and attention.

Without both no body is able to maintain its health.

Both identity and attention are required to distinguish friend from foe and food from poison. For example, the immune system must be able to be aware of both self and not-self to ward off infection and disease by devouring not-self with white blood cells.

You really control only your identity and your attention.
Whatever you give your identity to--that you are.

When you give your identity to the idea of being a god--you are not a god but only the dead thought of being a god.

"But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead."--Matthew 8:22

Your biggest problem in life is that your identity is not with your self.

"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."--I John 3:9

Your true self is a vessel, transceiver, container, host, bottle.

Your true self is not signals, thoughts, contents, memories, sensations.

"That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;"--I Thessalonians 4:4

You can falsely identify with your body and be like the animals.

"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."--II Corinthians 5:8

You can falsely identify with human thoughts and be like the devils.

"Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?"--Ezekiel 14:3

You can by grace identify with the angels of God who minister to you and be one of the few counted righteous by God.

"And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them."--Galatians 3:12

You can rightly identify with your vessel and be as a little child.

"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."--Matthew 18:3

Thinking distracts and keeps you from self and is in no way self.

"You never exist quite so much as when you are not thinking."--Friedrich Nietzsche, 1844-1900, German philosopher
