“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.” —Galileo

“We never do anything well until we cease to think about the manner of doing it.” —William Hazlitt, 1778-1830

Living & Know, Do, Be

  • Knowing, doing, and being are the three aspects of living.
  • Knowing is claiming either awareness or knowledge.
  • Doing is claiming action or agency.
  • Being is claiming identity or personhood.

Flesh: Body, Plants, & Animals

This is the way to be a physical self.

  • I know because my body has sensations, feelings, and thoughts.
  • I do because I react and respond to my body’s sensations, feelings, and thoughts.
  • I am a being because I am the sensations, feelings, and thoughts of my body.

The Problem of Ego or Self-Esteem

This is the way to be a worldly self.

  • I am a being, because I am the thoughts that try to change, control, or suppress things

Self & Its Vessel Nature
