Conversion Therapy Prejudice
- We live in PC times. The American Counseling Association (ACA) and some other professional organizations in the field of mental health counseling have formally declared that it is unethical for a professional counselor to help a client convert from homosexuality to heterosexuality—even if the client requests that help.
- I wrote a letter to the editor of Counseling Today, the newsletter of ACA, expressing my concerns.
- My letter was never published. Hence, I have decided to publish it here.

CONVERSION THERAPY
I want to respond to the “point” and “counterpoint” discussion on conversion therapy in the March 1999 issue of Counseling Today.
There are some important issues that we need to explore:
- Do clients have the right to set their own counseling goals?
- Do human beings have the right to choose their sexual preference?
- Do clients have the right to seek help to extinguish sexual fantasies, attractions, and behaviors inconsistent with their cultural beliefs?
- Do clients have the right to self-determination, or is that only a function of what is politically correct?
- Can we admit that sexual preferences can and do change because they are not genetic?
- Can counselors help a client pursue changes the client wants to make if those changes are not harming anything more than the beliefs and prejudices of others?
- Are sexual abusers receiving unethical treatments since their treatment uses most, if not all, of the conversion therapy interventions?
- How can we counsel one person to accept a changing sexual preference, e.g., from heterosexuality to homosexuality, and then deny someone else to do the opposite?
- Are pedophiles to be accepted as genetically predisposed and therefore acting within their legal rights?
- Are those afflicted with zoophilia to be accepted as genetically predisposed and therefore acting within their legal rights?
- Is there a genetic cause for the paraphilias that legitimizes them? Do genetic causes of defects legitimize defects?
- How are we to treat sexual abusers, pedophiles, sexual sadists, sexual masochists, those with zoophilia, and the other paraphilias if conversion therapy is unethical?

10 Added Questions
- If a person is born in a man’s body and declares that they are a woman in the wrong body, then everyone is supposed to accept that.
- However, if a person is born in a man’s body and declares that they are a man in the right body, then everyone is supposed to regard that with suspicion and call it gender programming and social conditioning.
- Why are counselors encouraged to help someone convert from a heterosexual to a homosexual orientation but not the other way around?
- Why is it ethical to help a heterosexual become homosexual but not ethical to help a homosexual become a heterosexual?
- Why do lesbians insist on being with real women? Lesbians do not want transsexuals or men who claim they are women in a man’s body.
- Why do male homosexuals insist on being with real men? Male homosexuals do not want transsexuals or women who claim they are men in a woman’s body.
- Why do transexuals claim that homosexuals are in denial because all homosexuals are really transexuals?
- Why do transexuals insist on two sexes and claim they were born the wrong one of the two sexes when the movement they are attached to, LGBT, claims there are many sexualities?
- Why do people claim that sex is love and not that dinner is love? Both sex and having dinner with someone are about sharing pleasure, not love. Yes, love can be added, but desire, not love, is inherent in sex.

Adaptability to New Sexual Preferences
- For many, the defining trait of human beings for many is that humans have managed to adapt to living in far more conditions than any other species.
- You can move to a country where you don’t know the language and hate the food; however, if you seek to adapt, you will learn the language and love the food.
- Adults like different foods than children. People change their tastes and preferences, and sometimes it just happens with exposure, and other times it happens by choice. Anyone can learn to desire differently.

What Is an Unnatural Act?
- What does it take to call an act “against nature” or “unnatural”?
13 Reasons Sodomy Is an Unnatural Act
- (1) causes pain;
- (2) causes tearing and ripping;
- (3) causes bleeding;
- (4) causes hemorrhoids;
- (5) increases the opportunity for the spread of diseases;
- (6) increases the opportunity for the spread of infections;
- (7) leads to having a colectomy;
- (8) requires artificial lubricants;
- (9) forces muscles to go in the reverse direction of that for which they were designed;
- (10) weakens the sphincter muscle;
- (11) due to the weakened sphincter muscle, there is less control over gas;
- (12) due to the weakened sphincter muscle, there is more dirt expelled with gas;
- (13) over time causes the complete collapse of the sphincter muscle requiring a surgical operation to close it permanently and to reroute waste into a plastic bag.
Sodomy Is Unnatural
- If these 13 reasons cannot convince you that sodomy is indeed against nature, then nothing can convince you, and you are free to commit this atrocity on your victims.
- Please, at least, practice informed consent.
- Informed consent means you warn your victims of the possible complications, disorders, problems, and side effects they risk when engaging in unnatural acts with you.
- We are not proposing that we do as many Muslims do; throw homosexuals off high roofs. We are not proposing to arrest adults who perform homosexual acts with other consenting adults. We are saying we should stop accepting, condoning, and promoting homosexuality for the sake of our children and society.
