WHAT CONSTITUTES BELIEF ACCORDING TO THE WORD OF GOD?

Do you do works greater than Christ did?

  • Then you do not believe no matter what you claim as His word is true and yours is false.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” —John 14:12

Do you abide in darkness, in unconsciousness, in unawareness?

  • Then you do not believe regardless of what you say as His word is sure and yours is false.

“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” —John 12:46

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:” —I John 1:6

Do you cast out devils in the name of Jesus and speak with new languages?

  • Can you handle snakes without harm? Are you immune to poison? Can you heal the sick?
  • If not then you are not a believer no matter what man’s word you rely on to say that you are.

“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast our devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” —Mark 16:17-18

Do rivers of living water flow out of your belly?

  • Then despite your words, His words convict you as an unbeliever.

“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” —John 7:38

Do you do what Christ said or only speak it?

Listed in Biblical Order

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” —Matthew 7:21-23

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:” —Matthew 7:24

“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” —Matthew 15:8

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” —John 14:15

“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” —John 15:14

“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.”- —I John 2:3

Do you love other believers?

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” —John 13:35

Do you act like Christ or as other people, as your friends or family?

“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk, even as he walked.”—I John 2:6

Is your belief just of the facts or of the power and glory too?

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” —James 2:19

You have to believe with your whole heart, soul, mind, and strength or your belief is no more of value than the belief of devils.

“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” —Matthew 15:8

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” —Mark 12:30

Is your belief just talking?

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” —Matthew 7:21

You must continually keep God’s word in your mind or be lost.

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;” —John 8:31

“By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.” —I Corinthians 15:2

Your belief cannot be just mental. Your belief must be with your heart and not just your head.

“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” —Matthew 15:8

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” —Romans 10:9

Who do you rely on—things or God when you have trouble?

“That thy children, O Lord, whom thou lovest, might know, that it is not the growing of fruits that nourisheth man: but that it is thy word, which preserveth them that put their trust in thee.” —Wisdom of Solomon 16:26

Do you rely on God or money to solve your problems?

“Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.” —Psalms 52:7

“Marvel not at the works of sinners; but trust in the Lord, and abide in thy labour: for it is an easy thing in the sight of the Lord on the sudden to make a poor man rich.” —Ecclesiasticus 11:21

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” —Jeremiah 17:7

Do you trust God or man?

Listed in Biblical Order

“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” —Jeremiah 17:5

“Therefore let no man glory in men.” —I Corinthians 3:21

Do you trust dreams or God?

“For dreams have deceived many, and they have failed that put their trust in them.” —Ecclesiasticus 34:7

You cannot believe if you are seeking self-esteem, approval of man.

“How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?” —John 5:44

Your belief must be in God, not self.

  • When you have problems, who do you trust to solve them—self or God?
  • When you have decisions and choices to make, whose word do you turn to for advice–yours, people’s, or God’s?
  • Who do you listen to in your head–God or self?

“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.” —Romans 7:18
