6 Steps that Work to Stop Emotional Pain

Here are six steps that can cure or relieve either psychological or physical pain.
6 Steps
- Apologize directly to the pain or provide understanding for its existence.
- Accept the pain as it is, or be mindful of it and fully recognize it.
- Empathize with the distress, which is to relate to the pain, not sympathize with the pain.
- Love the space and place that has the pain, not the pain. Show compassion.
- Encourage the space and place of the distress that there are better ways to feel there.
- Remember pleasure, relaxation, or comfort in the space and place that now has the pain.
Some Suggestions
- You must repeat the 6 steps often if they are to work.
- You can repeat the 6 steps in any order and at any time.
- You can just use the steps that you remember.
- Experiment using the 6 steps with an upset spouse or child.
- Above all, you must learn to accept the pain, because it is “not-ing” that keeps the distress alive.
